New Feature: Real-Time TCAS Conflict Detection for flightboard map

Situational awareness is the cornerstone of safe flight simulation. Today, we are excited to announce a major update 1.1.4 to Simfixr Flightboard: an integrated, TCAS-inspired conflict detection system designed to give you professional-grade monitoring of the airspace around you.

How it Works

The radar map now continuously monitors every en-route and approaching aircraft. Using the Haversine formula, the system calculates precise nautical mile and vertical distance offsets between targets in real-time.

To ensure the display remains clean and useful, we’ve implemented Intelligent Filtering. The system automatically excludes aircraft below 1,000 feet or those in ground and departure phases. This prevents "false positives" while you or other pilots are maneuvering on the taxiways or initial climb-out.

Watch the Feature in Action

Check out this short showcase of the conflict detection system reacting to live VATSIM traffic:

Understanding the Alerts

Conflicts are visualised through pulsing squares and dashed connecting lines that change color based on the severity of the proximity:

  • Yellow (Caution): Triggered when aircraft are within 10 NM horizontally and 2,000 ft vertically.
  • Orange (Proximity): Triggered when aircraft are within 5 NM horizontally and 1,000 ft vertically.
  • Red (Immediate Conflict): Triggered when targets are within 2 NM horizontally and 800 ft vertically.

Tracked Flight Mode

If you are using the Track Flight feature, the system becomes even more focused. To reduce clutter in busy sectors, the radar will filter out all unrelated traffic conflicts and only display alerts that directly involve your specific callsign.

Try it Today

The conflict detection system is live right now. You can toggle the feature on or off directly from the map legend, and your preference will be saved for your next session.
